Canada’s Most Haunted Tourist Destinations

Title Image of a spooky cemetery for the most haunted destinations in Canada article

With the spooky season upon us, many Canadians may be looking for an extra thrill this Halloween, and it might be closer to them than they think.

Canada isn’t typically known for being scary, quite the opposite, in fact. Renowned for its stunning landscapes and coastlines, the country also hides a surprising number of ‘haunted’ locations waiting to be explored.

To uncover which are the most spine-chilling, experts at Spin Casino analyzed 20 haunted locations across Canada, comparing factors such as TripAdvisor reviews mentioning ‘haunted,’ Google search volumes, historical age, Reddit discussions on paranormal activity, and the availability of ghost tours.

Table showing the 20 most scariest destinations to visit in Canada

Fort Garry Hotel in Manitoba has emerged as Canada’s most haunted location in 2025, with an index score of 87 out of 100. Established in 1911, the hotel has, on average, received over 300 searches per month related to its alleged hauntings.

In addition, Fort Garry also has the most TripAdvisor reviews of all locations regarding hauntings or mentions of ghosts.

Known for its elegant architecture and luxury accommodations, the hotel remains a landmark in downtown Winnipeg. Guests and staff have reported eerie occurrences, most famously in Room 202, where unexplained noises, flickering lights, and ghostly apparitions are said to appear, making the Fort Garry a blend of historic charm and chilling legend.

Casa Loma in Toronto follows closely behind in second place with a haunted score of 73 out of 100. Again, this location has a high number of mentions of over 50 from ‘ghost’ and ‘haunted’ mentions and also has one of the highest numbers of Reddit threads on spooky activity within the area.

Established in 1911, Casa Loma is known for its Gothic Revival architecture, secret tunnels, and lasting reputation as one of Toronto’s most haunted sites.

Ranking in third as the most haunted hotspot in Canada is Heritage Park in Calgary, which achieved a total score of 58. Unlike the older castles and hotels, Heritage Park is a living history museum, so any haunted reports there blend with the re-creations of old buildings, giving visitors the eerie sense that the ghosts belong to the exhibits themselves.

Among the 20 historic locations analyzed, Chateau Ramezay in Montreal ranked lowest, receiving a total score of only 3. Built in 1705, Chateau Ramezay is one of Montreal’s oldest buildings and now serves as a museum showcasing life in New France. Visitors can explore period rooms, colonial artefacts and a recreated 18th-century garden.

Whether you’re seeking a brush with the paranormal or looking to elevate your Halloween plans, exploring one of these haunted locations could deliver the spooky adventure you’re after. And if you prefer your thrills from the comfort of home, online gaming offers an equally exciting and rewarding way to add a touch of entertainment to your day. Remember to play responsibly.

Methodology

Spin Casino analyzed the most well-known haunted locations across Canada and used data from Google Keyword Planner, TripAdvisor and Reddit to find out the total number of mentions of ‘haunted’. The data also analyzed whether these places offered tours and their historical age.

Each location was then assigned an index score out of 700 based on its rating across these data points.

Data correct as of October 2025.
