Play Craps At The Best Online Casino

If you've never played Craps at a land-based or online casino before, it can feel a little intimidating. Don't worry though; it's actually quite a simple table game once you know what to do. Of course, the best place for this and all other kinds of online gambling in Canada at Spin Casino.

Unlike many of the more traditional casino games, Craps didn't originate in the homes of European aristocrats. Although it arose from Hazard, which was popular in Europe, it really took off when Phillipe de Marigny de Mandeville settled in Louisiana and introduced it to his farmhands.

Being so transportable, Craps became popular on Mississippi river boats, and then among soldiers in WWII. When they came home they brought it to Las Vegas, and the rest is history!

Game Basics

In Craps casino games, 2 dice are rolled. You need to bet on what they will show when they come to rest. We use Random Number Generation software that is audited and certified by respected authorities, to ensure that the results in our online games are completely fair.

You are essentially predicting whether the roll will win or lose. This is called betting with or betting against the Shooter (the person, traditionally, who throws the dice). Every round has 2 stages; the Come Out and Point Phases.

The Come Out Phase's bets with and against the Shooter are called, respectively, the Pass and Don't Pass wagers. In the Point Phase, they are called the Come and Don't Come bets.

It’s all about the roll of the dice

Placing Your Bets

In the Come Out Phase, the Shooter wins if they roll a 7 or 11, and loses if they roll a 2, 3 or 12. If you place a Pass bet, you win and lose with the Shooter, and for Don't Pass bets the opposite is true. Any other number establishes the Point, and the Point Phase begins.

Now, you are betting for and against the Point that the Shooter established, as well as another point that you choose yourself. The Shooter wins if they roll either point, and loses if they roll anything else.

Your Come bet wins and loses with the Shooter, and the opposite is true for Don't Come stakes. Get comfortable with these basics, and then try the more advanced wagers that are also possible at Spin Casino.

Where Does the Name Come From?

“Craps” might be a shortened version of Crapaud, which is French for “toad”, since men crouching down to play had the same posture. Another theory is that it was how “Crabs”, a slang word for 2 and 3 on a dice, was pronounced in Louisiana. Both of these make sense, and speak to the rich history of these land-based, desktop and mobile casino games.

Place Win and Place Lose: After the Point is established; if any number from 4 to 10 is thrown a Place Win is successful. The only exception is when a 7 is thrown, which is a winning Place Lose bet.

Buy and Lay: Similar to Place Bets, but with a 5% commission and higher

Hardways: A prediction that the same number will be seen on both dice before a 7 is rolled. A Hard 6 will show a 3 on each face, a Hard 8 shows a pair of 4s, and so on.

Big 6 and Big 8: Any combination making up 6 or 8, respectively, will land before the next 7 is thrown.

Propositions: Bets on specific events; high odds and returns.
